Root Canal Treatment Aftercare

It is normal to experience some soreness or tenderness for a few days following your root canal treatment. Your jaw may also be sore from having held it wide open for a long time during the treatment. These symptoms will subside over the days following treatment but over the counter medication should be used as necessary; this is normally sufficient to alleviate the pain
If you experience severe pain or pressure that lasts more than the initial days, please contact us
Immediately after your treatment when your mouth is still numb, do not eat. This is really a precaution against accidently biting your tongue or cheek
Do not chew or bite on the treated tooth as you may fracture the tooth and even lose the tooth.
Brush and floss as normal
If you have a temporary filling – some parts may wear away or even small pieces may fracture away, this is normal – but if you think that the complete filling has come away, please contact us
Please get in touch if you develop any of the following symptoms:

- A swelling inside or outside your mouth
- An allergic reaction to any medication – like itching or a rash
- A return of your original symptoms
- If your bite feels uneven

- A Root Canal is only one step in restoring your tooth to proper function. A final restoration such as a filling or strengthening of your tooth by way of a crown is extremely important to ensure that you retain the function of the tooth.
