Root Canal Treatment Aftercare
- It is normal to experience some soreness or tenderness for a few days following your root canal treatment. Your jaw may also be sore from having held it wide open for a long time during the treatment. These symptoms will subside over the days following treatment but over the counter medication should be used as necessary; this is normally sufficient to alleviate the pain
- If you experience severe pain or pressure that lasts more than the initial days, please contact us
- Immediately after your treatment when your mouth is still numb, do not eat. This is really a precaution against accidently biting your tongue or cheek
- Do not chew or bite on the treated tooth as you may fracture the tooth and even lose the tooth.
- Brush and floss as normal
- If you have a temporary filling – some parts may wear away or even small pieces may fracture away, this is normal – but if you think that the complete filling has come away, please contact us
- Please get in touch if you develop any of the following symptoms:
-
- A swelling inside or outside your mouth
- An allergic reaction to any medication – like itching or a rash
- A return of your original symptoms
- If your bite feels uneven
- Please read also the After Care following Fillings for some more aftercare information
- A Root Canal is only one step in restoring your tooth to proper function. A final restoration such as a filling or strengthening of your tooth by way of a crown is extremely important to ensure that you retain the function of the tooth.
